The Northumberland Masonic Demonstration Team.
Raising Funds for Masonic & Non-Masonic Charities
A LODGE NIGHT OF LONG AGO.
Bringing to life a Lodge Meeting with a Degree Ceremony as performed in 1823 the Northumberland Masonic Demonstration Team invite you to have a peep into the historic past and enjoy a unique Masonic experience.
Performed in the costume and regalia of the period the Team enact either a first degree or third degree ceremony both of which are somewhat different to how we know them today.
It was common practice for Lodges in those far off days to meet in Inns and Taverns with the Festive Boards being thoroughly enjoyed and often in a somewhat rumbustious manner! Never-the-less, there was little doubt that Lodge Meetings, sometimes held twice a month, were enjoyable gatherings and conducted with enthusiasm and great camaraderie. Our Brethren of yesteryear certainly enjoyed themselves … we hope you do too.
How we started
Team members got together in on Sunday 1st July 2007 in order to raise funds in support of the Province’s 2009 Festival for the RMTGB by learning and demonstrating an early nineteenth century Masonic first degree ceremony.
Spurred on by success
Having enhanced its repertoire to include a demonstration of a third degree many invitations have been received to return to Lodges who witnessed the first degree enactment. To date over eighty-five engagements have been fulfilled travelling approximately over 6,610 miles to Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Great Queen Street and other provinces outside of Northumberland.
The team have and have held 360 rehearsals in the last eight years and raised £15,000 from donations and raffles all of which has been distributed for Masonic and other charitable purposes as the Team pays for its own travel and all other expenses.
Non –Masonic Charities that the team have supported are as follows:
- Sea Scouts
