Report and Information from the 4 Main Central Masonic Charities
For the Year ending 31st December 2011

Once again 2011 was a very busy year for the Province of Northumberland with applications to the 4 main Masonic Charities in order to help and support Mason’s, dependants and their families in time of need.

I am pleased to share with you the latest breakdown of information for the year ending 31st December by each charity.

Grand Charity (GC)
This being the part of our organization which can support a Mason or his family in times of need, when they are looking for some financial assistance when things have changed within their life. Sometimes this can be a short term problem others may need support for longer periods s of time. Each case is looked at individual and a decision is made to suite that application.

During all of 2011 the Province was awarded £132,065 by the Grand Charity supporting 52 applications from Masons or their dependants and the total for the last five years is £544,840 helping 259 cases.

Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys (RMTGB)

The trust has been helping to support the children (and sometimes the grand children) of a Mason within the Province who’s lives have suddenly been changed by circumstances beyond their control during 2011 we received £90,545 which has been awarded between 25 girls and 9 boys we have also received a further £40,717 from the Talent Aid Fund helping 4 young people.

Over the last five years the children in Northumberland have received £454,280 from this trust.

Masonic Samaritan Fund (MSF)
This charity has been supporting and financing the members of Northumberland over the last 12 months to help those with the cost of medical treatments including about £40,000 of dental work along with home adaption’s (i.e. shower rooms stair lifts etc).

During 2011 we were able to help with 17 applications which was supported to the total of £100,000 and we have been given a total of £263,417 since 2007 helping 49 cases.

Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution (RMBI)
The RMBI have helped to support and care for the older Mason’s and their dependants during 2011 and we have gained funding to aid this support  by assistance with the costs of being a resident in Scarbrough Court (the newest RMBI residential home in the country here in Northumberland -- Cramlington).

The funding for the year ending 31st December 2011 was £78,097 supporting 26 older dependants and over the last 5 years we have helped to care for over 128 individuals costing over £384,000.

As a Province we have over the last five years had an input from the 4 Main Central Masonic Charities to the Grand Total of £1,263,091 helping over 600 applications.

During 2011 I have visited over 18 Lodges in various locations to give a talk / presentation on the work of the Masonic Charities and the Lodge Almoner.
