The Training & Education team delivered “Secretaries Seminars” in October

‘Making a daily advancement in Masonic knowledge
is the hope of every Freemason. In Northumberland, one of our key aims is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn – and we want it to be enjoyable and to have fun!

The Provincial Training Team held two very successful seminars for secretaries on the 5th and 26th October at Byker and Morpeth respectively. All secretaries throughout the Province were invited and were asked to identify areas where they felt training was needed. This determined the content of the presentations, which covered six topics in two hours.

Six presenters gave brief 5 minute talks on specific areas highlighting what the Province and UGLE required to help in the smooth running of our organisation. Then 10 minutes were given over to discussion and questions on these topics.

We were very fortunate to have present at both the meetings the Provincial Secretary, who was able to develop the points made as well as being able to answer the more difficult of the questions. This helped the secretaries understand how important their role is in ensuring the efficient running of their Lodges and the Province.

In all approximately 25% of secretaries attended. Some were very experienced and had been in post for a number of years, others were new or had been recently appointed. While most of them had used the Provincial Guide for Lodge Secretaries the sessions dealt with some issues in more detail than in this booklet as well as highlighting where the guide might be altered when a revision takes place.

The feedback we have received so far has been very positive and all seemed to have enjoyed the mornings. It was especially pleasing when several of the brethren who had attended asked if we could have another session next year.
