TLC Appeal Northumberland Central – 3rd Annual Report

In last year’s Report we stated we had wrote to 81 Lodges in our catchment area and that 31 of them had responded positively. Their donations when added to other sources of revenue gave a cumulative total of £7,565.00 for Year 2011.

In 2012 we again wrote to those 81 Lodges from which only 21 replied positively. Their contributions along with further sources of revenue realised £1,914 for the whole of 2012. The Appeal Committee wishes to place on record their sincere thanks and gratitude to those who have contributed, and to those who are continuing to contribute, towards this Appeal.

As stated in our previous reports, the committee views every single donation as being an important contribution. However we make particular reference to the following for their specific efforts during the past year to raise funds.

  • Hextoldesham Lodge No. 5577 for their generous donation of £200.00.
  • Luke Carter Aged 7 who raised £102.50 for the Appeal through sponsorship, by running in the BUPA Junior & Mini Great North Run on Saturday 15th September. (See Provincial website for more details).
  • Once again Malcolm I Byrne, PProvGSuptWks (Charity Steward of Faraday Lodge No. 4852), delivered numerous talks within the Province during last year and was rewarded with donations totalling £560.00 towards the Appeal. He remains our most committed supporter.

We stated in last year’s report that we were now supplying the RVI Children Ward with our bears. However, after the first few months it became clear that we could not continue to supply the same volume of bears each month as the number they were utilising would eventually outstrip our finances. A restructuring plan has been formulated to circumvent this and hopefully this should sustain our financial position and meet their longer term supply needs.

In addition to the RVI Children Ward, the Westgate Walk In Centre has also become another recipient of our bears. Their supply needs mirrors the Byker Walk In Centre and do not place any major burden on our current budget and financial status.

As we are now supporting four NHS centres the need to increase our efforts to bring in even greater funds this year is evident if we are to sustain our support to those centres. Last year’s donations are disappointing compared with those sums raised in previous years. However we will continue to write to all the Craft Lodges in our catchment area to request their support. We are conscious of the economic climate, and that some Lodges may be struggling, but would remind everyone that the distinguishing characteristics of every freemasons heart is charity, and that all we asking for is that Lodges, or individual masons, be charitable towards this Appeal.

Any donations, collective or individual, should be sent to the Treasurer at the address stated below. Please note that cheques must be made payable to “TLC Northumberland Central Group”. From the donations we have received to date, the accumulated amount of bears supplied to the various NHS Centres supported by this Appeal Group, has now reached 3,650.

We hope this report has brought some further insight on how the Central Group Appeal is progressing.

The committee (named below) will be happy to answer any queries you may have, and also welcome any help to maintain the Appeal and to raise further funds.
