TLC Appeal Northumberland Central – 5th & Final Annual Report

Our 2013 Report stated that 78 Lodges in the Central Group catchment area were asked for contributions and 24 had responded. Their donations and other sources of revenue gave a cumulative total of £4,074.00 for this Group’s appeal which, compared to the disappointing figure raised for 2012, was magnificent.

In 2014 we wrote to 72 Lodges of which 28 replied positively. Their contributions along with further welcomed sources of revenue realised £2,964.00 for the year. The Central Group Committee wishes to place on record their sincere thanks and gratitude to all those who donated to the Appeal in 2014.

As stated in previous reports, the committee views every single donation as an important contribution, especially from the responding 28 Lodges. We do wish however to make further reference to the following contributors.

  • The Northumberland Demonstration Team who once again made a generous donation of £300.00.
  • Novocastrian Chapter No.3361 for donating £176.00 from their closure funds.
  • Wylam Masonic Hall Lodges - George Stephenson No.3390, Heddon-on-the-Wall No.8157, Vindobala No.5480 and Wylam No. 6922 - who collectively have raised and donated £192.00 this year.
  • St Margarets Chapter No.5816 for donating £175.00 from their closure funds
  • Grace Carter aged 5 for raising £100.00 for the Appeal through sponsorship, by running in the BUPA Junior & Mini Great North Run on Saturday 6th September.
  • Clare and James Horner at Corbridge Road Masonic Hall and Pat McCue and her team at Fern Avenue Masonic Hall who continue to sell lapel badges and fund raising teddy bears for the appeal fund.
  • Malcolm I Byrne, PAGDC - Charity Steward of Faraday Lodge No. 4852 (this Group’s most committed individual supporter), who delivered numerous talks during the year for which he was rewarded with donations totalling £635.00 for the Appeal.

The NHS Centres covered by the Central Group continually express their gratitude for the bears they receive reiterating they are of great help to them during the treatment of sick and injured children. They have again requested that their grateful thanks be conveyed to all involved and that includes each and every one who has provided and/or helped raise funds for these bears

We reported in our last annual report that we would be undertaking a review (with the other two Appeal Groups) of the Appeal’s current operations with the view to establishing how it should best operate in the longer term for the whole Northumberland Province. That review was completed and as communicated by the Provincial Grand Secretary in December 2014, the TLC Appeal Groups [North, East & Central] will be merging into a single unit administered from the Provincial Office. This merger should be finalised early January 2015 and another communication will follow from the Provincial Grand Secretary to confirm the Provincial Office are now formally administering the Appeal, along with details on future financing, and confirmation of the new bank account name against which all future donations should be made payable to.

We encourage all of you to actively support the appeal regardless of the change of administration, that your help is still very much required to raise the necessary funds to enable this Province to continue providing teddy bears to all our local NHS Centres. Please now channel all your energies/donations towards the Provincial Office.

Finally, since its inception in 2009, the Central Group have endeavoured to encourage support for this Appeal from the various lodges in their catchment area. We are very proud that many of you have embraced the idea of supporting us, as without that support, our task to provide bears to the NHS Centres would have been extremely difficult if not impossible. As this is our last report we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to each and every one of you for everything you have done for us over years.

Many thanks – Northumberland Central Group
