TLC Appeal Northumberland Central – 2nd Annual Report

In our first Annual Report we stated that over the first 14 month period of the Appeal, we had targeted 85 Lodges in our catchment area and that 27 of them provided some form of donation. When those donations were added to the other reported sources of revenue we had raised just over £4,500.00 towards the Appeal.

Last year we wrote again to the remaining 81 Lodges in our catchment area and 31 of them responded positively. The money they donated when coupled with other sources of revenue for Year 2011, added up to the grand total of £7,565.00. The Northumberland Central Group wishes to place on record their sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone who has, and who is continuing to contribute towards this Appeal.

While the committee views every individual donation received as being an important contribution, it would be wrong of us if we did not make particular reference in this year’s report to the following contributors for their specific efforts during the past year to raise funds.

  • Achilles University Lodge No. 4078 for their magnificent donation of £4,694.50p which was raised at their Annual Charitable Ladies Night, which in April 2011 was in aid of the TLC Appeal.
  • Rosemary Lodge No. 6421 who organised a Race night in July at Rothbury which raised £350.00.
  • Malcolm I Byrne, Charity Steward of Faraday Lodge No. 4852 who by delivering numerous talks last year to various Lodges within the Province was rewarded with donations totalling £695.00 towards this Appeal.

As stated in last year’s report, the Appeal was aiming to add the RVI Children Ward as another recipient of TLC bears. We are very pleased to communicate that due to the donations received last year we have now been enabled to start supplying bears to the Children Ward.

Helga Charters - Matron of the RVI Children Ward has asked us to extend her grateful thanks to all those who helped to provide the bears and she has advised that the children were both happy and ecstatic on receiving them. This is purely down to everyone who has made a donation, as without the funds they provided we would not be able to make so many sick and distressed children happy.

Although the donated figure of £7.5K for last year may seem a huge compared to that raised in 2010, this must be viewed in context with our spending for 2011 which was over £3.2K.This figure will increase tremendously every year due to the volume of patients admitted into the Children Ward. As we are now supporting three NHS centres we obviously need to increase our efforts even greater to bring in the necessary funds to sustain our support to those centres, and also ensure the continuance of this particular TLC Appeal Group.

To that end, we will again write to all the Craft Lodges in our catchment area to request their support and hopefully the provisions of further donations towards this cause. Collective and individual donations should be sent to the Treasurer at the address stated below. Note: Cheques must be made payable to “TLC Northumberland Central Group”.

We hope this report has brought some insight on how the Northumberland Central Group Appeal is progressing.
