NMBA Annual Tournament

On Sunday 15th August the Northumberland Masonic Bowling Association (NMBA) held their annual pairs bowling tournament, the Markham Wright Trophy, at Benfield Bowling Club.

The format of the day was for each pairing to play three legs and the two pairings with the highest points score would compete in a final.  Last year’s winners, Ron Hall and Steve Thompson, won their first two legs and secured a place in the final with a draw.  By contrast, their opponents, Alan Gauld and Richard Broadbent, stomped into the final on the back of three wins and seemed set to deny Ron and Steve a back-to-back victory of the trophy.

The final was well contested by both pairings but ultimately it was Ron and Steve who came out on top.  The Provincial Grand Master, in his capacity as President of the NMBA, presented the Markham Wright Trophy to the winning pair and the runners-up were also presented with a much deserved cup.

Prior to the tournament the NMBA held their annual general meeting and new officers were elected for 2010/2011.  Tommy Foo was re-elected Chairman, Steve Thompson was elected Secretary, Dave Moffatt was elected Assistant Secretary and Ron Hall was elected Treasurer.

The NMBA are always looking for new members.  It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned Bowler or a complete novice, you would be very welcome.  Anyone interested in joining should email our newly made secretary, W. Bro Steve Thompson
