Northumbrian Masters Centenary

On Monday 31st January 2011, Northumbrian Masters Lodge No. 3477  celebrated its Centenary at Corbridge Road Masonic Hall. The R W  Provincial Grand Master of Northumberland, Peter Magnay and the  Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge were in attendance to witness this magnificent and memorable occasion.

R W Bro. Peter Magnay DL, the Provincial Grand Master presented W Bro. Michael Daws PSGD, the Worshipful Master with the Centenary Warrant.

The Lodge was consecrated on Tuesday 31st January 1911 at the Grand Assembly Rooms, Barras Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne at 5 p.m.. The ceremony was conducted by V W Bro. Sir Edward Letchworth FSA, the Grand Secretary. The first Worshipful Master was R W Bro. Colonel Charles Warren Napier-Clavering, the Provincial Grand Master of Northumberland. V W Bro. Seymour Bell, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master was appointed as Immediate Past Master.

There were 176 Founders with 10 further Joining Members were proposed and seconded on the night. 50 Founder’s Jewels were sold at a price of 23s 6d. The Consecration Banquet was held at Tilley’s Room, Market Street, Newcastle upon Tyne at a cost of 6s 6d.

Northumbrian Masters Lodge held its original meetings at the Masonic Hall, Maple Street, Newcastle upon Tyne on the last Thursday in February, May, August and November and on the fourth Tuesday in April. Its Festive Boards were held at Maple Street for a number of years but Tilley’s Room and later the Station and County Hotels were used for its Installation Banquets.

Nowadays the Lodge meets at Corbridge Road Masonic Hall, Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne on the last weekday in January, March, May and October.
