The 2013 Supreme Grand Chapter Bi-Centenary Appeal has been established to help The Royal College of Surgeons of England. It is used to fund the College’s successful surgical research fellowship scheme which supports surgeons to undertake a surgical research project.

This scheme enables the brightest and best surgeons of each generation to explore treatments for conditions and injuries that affect millions of people worldwide. The scheme relies completely on voluntary donations from individuals, trusts and legacies and needs more funding to continue to support the number of worthy research projects.

Our First Grand Principal, HRH The Duke of Kent quoted, ‘This campaign gives us an excellent opportunity to contribute further towards something that is helping to save lives and improve the quality of life for us, our children and grandchildren.’

In the Province of Northumberland, every Royal Arch Mason is expected to donate towards the Appeal. It is also the intention of the Province to approach the Northumberland Masonic Charity Association (NMCA) to make a one-off donation equivalent to the final full amount to the appeal. This would have two beneficial effects. Firstly it would discharge our commitment to Supreme Grand Chapter and secondly satisfy the Charity Commission requirement to make donations to non-Masonic causes.

The Province would require each Chapter to make a donation to NMCA of a sum equals to their total membership x £10 (i.e. £10 per member). This sum is expected to be collected over the next two years leading up to the end of 2013.
