Grand Lodge Annual Investiture

A Personal Experience by Brian Denton PAGDC

There are days and dates in my life that I will never forget; getting married, the birth of my first child and getting my first job are just a few.

Two more have now been added to my list, the 28th April 2010 and the 4th May 2010. The first is when I was appointed to Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies and received my collar from the Grand Master, His Royal Highness, the Duke of Kent at Freemasons’ Hall, Great Queen Street, London. The second is the date I represented the R W Provincial Grand Master at Prudhoe Castle Lodge No. 7065 in Mickley Masonic Hall.

28th April was a “Grand” day out in many ways. It was warm and sunny and I was in the company of over 1500 Masons, some of whom had travelled a bit further than me. In fact, some had come from as far afield as Nigeria, India, Hong Kong and many other countries around the world to receive their honours from the Grand Master.

The memorable highlights included receiving my collar from the Grand Master, being in the company of other masons from all over the world and all walks of life, and enjoying the company of Northumberland Masons who had attended as guests and supporters.

Coming home I was soon brought down to earth when my wife reminded me that the grass needs cutting, the bins need to be put out and the bathroom needs re-grouting.

My work as a Grand Officer immediately started on 4th May when I was given my first opportunity to represent the R W Provincial Grand Master at the Installation of W Bro. Phillip Reay of Prudhoe Castle Lodge. It was an occasion I will remember for a very long time, not only because of how nervous I felt, nor because of the excellent ceremony and the warm welcome I received but that the Lodge has a new candidate who I hope will both enjoy his masonry and contribute to the ongoing prosperity of the Lodge.
