The Richard Henry Holmes Masonic Benevolent Fund

This Fund was established in 1906 to commemorate the 25 years service of the late W. Bro. Ald Richard Henry Holmes PGD, as Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Northumberland, and is supported by voluntary contributions from the Lodges and Freemasons of the Province of Northumberland which it serves.

Its objectives are:

  • To make grants to Freemasons, widows and dependants of deceased Freemasons in distress.
  • To assist in the maintenance, education and advancement in life of the children of Freemasons in distress.
  • To make donations to local non Masonic charities.
  • To give relief and assistance in exceptional or urgent cases and in so far as the foregoing onjects have been exhauted to give relief or assistance in cases of need within and outwith the United Kingdom.

During the year under review donations amounting to £26,420 were made to Masonic charities and £10,150 to non-Masonic charities. The grants were all made to dependants of Freemasons.

Trustees

  • The Provincial Grand Master of Northumberland
  • The Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Northumberland
  • The Assistant Provincial Grand Masters of Northumberland
  • The Provincial Grand Secretary of Northumberland
  • The Deputy Grand Secretary of Northumberland
  • The Treasurer of the Fund
  • Three other Trustees who shall be elected at the Annual Meeting of the Fund

Management

The Fund shall be managed by a Committee which shall be appointed at the Annual Meeting of the Fund and shall consist of the Trustees of the Fund and any other members co-opted to serve on the Committee. The Chairman of the Committee shall be the Provincial Grand Master or if he is unable to attend, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master or one of the Assistant Provincial Grand Masters. Five members of the Committee shall form a quorum.

Any member co-opted to serve on the Committee will be elected each year at the Annual Meeting of the Fund.

Meetings

The Committee shall meet at least twice per year. Once prior to the Annual Meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge and at other times as and when necessary.

The Annual Meeting of the Fund shall take place on October of each year and all members of the Fund are entitled to attend and five members shall form a quorum.

A copy of the amended Constitution of the Fund can be obtained from the Provincial Office.



£500 for Momentum North East

On Thursday 2nd May 2013, members of Holy Stone Lodge No. 6171 presented a cheque of £500 on behalf of the Richard Henry Holmes Benevolent Fund to the Momentum North East in Newcastle upon Tyne. The aims and objectives of this Charity is to support people with brain injury back into employment, education or voluntary work and to offer community services for those who are unable to return to work.

The application to Richard Henry Holmes Benevolent Fund for a grant was made by W Bro. Bill Percy, a Past Master of the Lodge and it was approved by the Fund Committee.
