Northumberland Masonic Charity Association

The Northumberland Masonic Charity Association (NMCA) was formed in 1918. It is inextricably linked with the Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys (RMTGB) because the Trust was the beneficiary of our 1999 Festival and will be again the beneficiary in 2009.

One of the most significant obstacles, past and present, to fund-raising from Brethren is the widely held belief that we are simply raising money to send to ‘London’. However, the following facts may help to dispel this mistaken notion.

In May 1999 Northumberland Freemasons raised £2.7 million for the RMTGB. Since that time the Trust have had an average of 80 Northumberland children in their care at an annual average cost of more than £115,000. In other words, over a period of 10 years, the Trust would have given around £1.1 million to the children of Northumberland.

For the 2009 Festival, the target was £2.5 million but the final total raised for the RMTGB was £2,969,247 which was a tremendous achievement by the Province. Our Festival President, R W Bro. Peter Magnay DL was able to present to the President of the Trust, V W Bro Mike Woodcock, this magnificent cheque at the Festival Banquet on Wednesday, 13th May 2009 at the Gosforth Park Marriott Hotel, Newcastle upon Tyne. The event was witnessed by over 260 brethren and their ladies or partners.

From 14th May 2009 onwards, the NMCA is committed to raise fund for the next festival which will be in 2020 for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution.
