Bothal Lodge No.4116 in Ashington, has now donated a total of £5500 to various schools in Ashington.

Following receipt of a legacy from the late W. Bro Christopher Harris, the Lodge has made a donation of £500 to a different school in Ashington each year. The donation is given with the preferred aim of improving the musical education of children in Ashington.

The latest donation was given to the Josephine Butler Campus, part of the Northumberland Church of England Academy.

The picture shows W. Bro Vince Sharkey (left), the WM of Bothal Lodge, presenting the cheque to Mr Andrew Day, the Executive Director of the Academy.

After accepting the cheque Andrew commented: “In true Masonic tradition, the Bothal Lodge made a substantial donation to the Academy, which will be going towards the Academy’s enrichment programme, specifically into the development of music provision. The Freemasons, in my experience, have long been significant contributors to education and educational welfare. In every school in which I have ever been involved, the Freemasons, both locally and nationally, have had a significant impact on the lives of children, both as individuals and within the schools as a whole. This contribution to the Academy is another example of their generosity and we are extremely grateful for it.”
