Scarbrough Court – A Fun and Exciting Place to Live!

What have the residents of Scarbrough Court experienced in terms of activity over recent months?

Each person is an individual, therefore we work together to provide person centre based activities for the benefit of our residents.

We strive to ensure that living at Scarbrough Court is enhanced on a daily basis by a comprehensive programme of activity. Our programme is not confined or limited to the activities calendar because we recognize the importance of creating an active environment at all times.

It really has been full steam ahead, with activities ranging from animal shows & reminiscence sessions, to classical musicians & china cup tea parties. We run regular professional musical based activities such as “Music for Health” provided by John Wake. Residents have also enjoyed off site excursions which include meeting residents from other homes at a local “Mind Active” centre, or hopping on the mini-bus to nearby shops.

In addition to the many entertainers/theatre groups providing excellent entertainment, we held our annual “Summer Garden Party” for which I proudly took part in by providing vocal entertainment, alongside a dear friend and longstanding brother.

We are very grateful for the continued support from the “Friends” of Scarbrough Court. Without their input and dedication, the varied activities which our residents have enjoyed each year would not have been possible. Many activities which were successful over the Christmas period in particular, were provided by our good friends.  Thank you very much for your ongoing support and the giving of your time.

Residents have the opportunity to stay physically active by taking part in a weekly exercise class provided by Emma from”Leema Fitness”. And for those interested in cognitive activities, we have launched an interactive T.V. programme which was greeted with much enthusiasm by our residents and their families.

Interactive T.V. has provided the platform for staff, residents and their families to enjoy activity together as a team, especially the group quiz. It gives staff the opportunity to spend precious time getting “involved “because at Scarbrough Court we value the importance of working and playing as a “team”.

Our programme of activity over the past nine months has expanded in terms of the amount of activities we deliver, and the times at which they are enjoyed. We believe we all have a role to play because activity can be as simple as having a chat or asking someone about their day. It is important that we all become involved with our residents so that they in turn “feel involved”.

Although my duties at Scarbrough Court are now focused elsewhere, I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to resource and provide activities in recent months for the benefit of our residents and for the ongoing support and appreciation from the Home Manager.

Maureen, Lynn and the rest of the staff are working very hard to provide a full spectrum of activities to suit each individual for 2012. We welcome Maureen back and I look forward to the year ahead and their combined success.
